Solar Water Heating

An appropriately sized system could provide up to 60% of your annual hot water requirements. These are designed to go with existing heating systems that use a cylinder to store hot water. The panels are the perfect partner to our Green star regular and system condensing boilers. These panels are available in portrait and landscape versions to suit a variety of roof sizes and shapes. FKC panels come in standard and high performance versions.


How do solar heating systems work?
These systems use solar panels called collectors, fitted to your roof. The collectors collect heat from the sun and use it to warm water which is stored in a cylinder. There are two types of panels available, these are flat plate collectors (like in the picture above) and evacuated tubes. Flat plate collectors can be fixed on the roof tiles or integrated into the roof. A boiler or immersion heater can be used as a back up to heat the water further to reach the temperature set by the cylinders thermostat when the system does not reach the required temperature. (The cylinder thermostat should be set at 60 degrees centigrade.) Larger panels can also provide renewable energy to heat your home as well - though usually only in the summer months when home heating is unnecessary.
